Dog To Assess

Your first consultation is where it all begins. We’ll review your dog’s history, carry out practical exercises, identify key problem areas, and set clear training goals.

After the assessment at one of our Centres, we’ll design a bespoke training plan. This starts with building solid foundations for great communication, trust, and good behaviour—essential for long-term success.

Once these foundations are set, we’ll address specific issues and progress to advanced obedience techniques for everyday control and safety.

Our expert training, co-developed by our certified dog behaviourist, will help you achieve the dog you’ve always dreamed of.

What You Need To Bring

We like to assess you and your dog on the equipment you normally walk them on. In some instances we may ask you to remove a training aid that is masking a behaviour, this could be a head collar or a particular type of training lead.

How Long It Takes

Our assessment takes around one hour. During this time you will be asked a series of questions that will give us a comprehensive history of your dog. We will then ask you to carry out some practical elements.

What We're Looking For

We will dig deep into the history of the time you have spent with your dog to find out exactly where your current relationship is and where any possible problem behaviours stem from. When we are able to find the root cause of any issues, we are able to address the real issue and provide a long lasting resolution to the problems.

DOG TRAINING COURSES IN LEEDS

PRE-TRAINING ASSESSMENT

Before we can help you, we need to properly understand what's going on. Our Pre-Training Assessment at Leeds is the starting point for all our behaviour and obedience work, and it's far more thorough than a standard consultation. Over the course of around an hour, your trainer will work through your dog's full history with you, ask the questions that most people haven't thought to ask, and carry out a series of practical exercises that reveal how your dog thinks and responds. Behavioural issues rarely appear out of nowhere — there's always an underlying cause, and finding it is what makes the difference between a course that produces lasting change and one that manages symptoms without solving them. The assessment gives us — and you — a genuine understanding of where to start and what to work towards.

PERSONAL BEHAVIOUR & OBEDIENCE TRAINING

This is our most popular course at Leeds, and for good reason. It covers everything — from the fundamental communication skills that every dog needs, right through to the specific behavioural issues that brought you to us in the first place. We start at the foundations because without them, trying to fix surface behaviours is like building on sand. Your dog needs to understand how to read you, trust you and respond to you consistently before anything else can truly be addressed. Once those foundations are solid, we work through your dog's specific challenges — reactivity, aggression, lead pulling, jumping, poor recall, or anything else — in a structured, methodical way. The course finishes with the kind of advanced obedience that gives you real control in real situations. By the end, most of our Leeds clients describe the experience as genuinely life-changing — not just for their dog, but for the whole household.

BOOST DAY TRAINING

A Boost Day is one of the most powerful tools in our training toolkit, and our Leeds clients who've experienced one tend to wish they'd done it sooner. Your dog spends a full day working one-to-one with one of our professional trainers — from the moment you drop them off to the moment you collect them. The day is structured entirely around the priorities identified during your assessment, with your trainer focusing on relationship building first, before moving into specific behavioural work. Sessions throughout the day cover socialisation, focus, impulse control, manners around other dogs, and managing excitement — all at a pace and intensity that a weekly session simply can't match. At the end of the day, you join your trainer for a dedicated one-hour handover session where everything is explained clearly — what was worked on, what progress was made, and exactly what you need to do at home to build on it. The progress most dogs make in a single Boost Day is remarkable.

RESIDENTIAL & HOME LIFE TRAINING

For dogs with more complex needs, or for owners who want to see the fastest possible transformation, our Residential Training programme at Leeds delivers results that weekly sessions alone cannot match. Your dog comes to live with one of our experienced trainers for the duration of the course — sleeping in their home, going on their walks, and being guided through every part of daily life with consistency and expertise. This level of immersion allows us to work on behaviour in the real contexts where it actually matters — at the front door, on the lead, around strangers, in busy environments — rather than only in a structured training setting. Before the course begins, we sit down with you to carry out a full assessment and build a programme tailored specifically to your dog and your home life. When the course ends, we don't just hand your dog back — we give you a thorough handover so you have everything you need to maintain and continue the progress they've made.

PUPPY PRE-TRAINING ASSESSMENT

Bringing a new puppy home is exciting — but it doesn't take long to realise that the early weeks set the tone for everything that follows. Our Puppy Pre-Training Assessment at our Leeds centre gives you the best possible start. In a relaxed, pressure-free session, your trainer will get to know your puppy, understand your situation, and work out what good training looks like specifically for you. No two puppies are the same, and no two households are either — so rather than putting you through a standard programme, we use the assessment to design something that actually fits your life. Come along, ask every question you have, and leave with a clear plan and real confidence about what comes next.

PUPPY SOCIALISATION

Most people think socialisation simply means letting puppies play together — but done incorrectly, it can actually reinforce the wrong behaviours. At our Leeds centre, our puppy socialisation drop-off days are structured around teaching your puppy how to interact properly with other dogs, not just freely. Under the supervision of our experienced trainers, your puppy learns to read social signals, manage their own excitement and build genuine confidence in the company of others. It's an ideal option if you're at work during the day and want to know your puppy is spending that time doing something genuinely valuable for their long-term development.

PUPPY TO ADULT TRAINING COURSES

The puppy phase is just the beginning. As your dog grows, the challenges change — and if training stops when the puppy stage does, you'll often find adolescence undoes a lot of the early progress. Our Puppy to Adult programme at Leeds is built around three distinct stages of development: Puppyhood, Adolescence, and Young Adulthood. At each stage, your trainer focuses on what's most relevant to where your dog is right now — building on what's been established and addressing what's emerging. It's a long-term commitment, but the payoff is a dog that has been guided consistently from day one through to a genuinely well-rounded adult. For owners who want to do this properly from the very start, this is the programme we recommend above all others.
