Residential dog training at The Dog Training Company — expert trainer working with a dog during a home life training course

Residential Dog Training: Transformative Results in Weeks, Not Months

Some dogs need more than a weekly session can give them. Whether your dog's behaviour has become genuinely unmanageable, you've tried other training without lasting results, or you simply want the fastest and most effective route to a well-behaved dog — our Residential Training programmes are built for exactly that. Your dog receives expert, one-to-one attention every single day of their course, guided by our accredited trainers and co-developed by our in-house certified dog behaviourist. The results speak for themselves.

Our Residential Training Options

OUR TWO RESIDENTIAL OPTIONS

Two Options. One Goal — A Dog You Can Be Proud Of.

We offer two types of residential training, each designed to give your dog the best possible chance of success in the setting most suited to them. Not sure which is right for your dog? We'll help you decide during your initial assessment.

Home Life Training

Home Life Training is our most popular residential option — and the one that produces some of our most remarkable transformations. Your dog goes to live with one of our dedicated trainers in their own home, becoming part of the family for the full duration of the course.

This immersive, home-based approach gives us something no kennel environment can replicate: the ability to work on your dog's behaviour in real, everyday situations. Out on morning walks, in the garden, around the house, in the car, and in busy public spaces — your dog is being guided and shaped throughout every part of the day, not just during scheduled training sessions.

What makes Home Life Training so effective:

  • Round-the-clock consistency from a single dedicated trainer
  • Training in real-world environments where behaviour actually matters
  • Full daily structure including walks, socialisation and focused training sessions
  • Your dog develops trust, confidence and reliable responses naturally and gradually
  • Ideal for dogs with anxiety, reactivity, aggression or complex behavioural challenges

Boarding Residential Training

Our Kennel Residential programme is based at our flagship Leeds & Wakefield HQ, where your dog is cared for in our 5-star kennel facility and receives dedicated, structured training every day of their stay.

This option is ideal for owners who want the reassurance of a professional facility environment combined with daily expert training. Your dog is looked after by our highly experienced team throughout their stay, with a clear training programme developed specifically around their needs and your goals.

What makes Kennel Residential Training stand out:

  • 5-star kennel facility at our Leeds & Wakefield HQ
  • Daily structured training sessions with experienced professional trainers
  • Multiple secure training areas on site
  • Co-developed by our in-house certified dog behaviourist
  • Ideal for owners whose lifestyle makes home-based residential less practical

Which Option Is Right for My Dog?

Home Life Training is best suited to dogs dealing with anxiety, reactivity, aggression or more complex behavioural challenges. Your dog stays in a trainer's home and is guided through real, everyday life situations across the full duration of the course. This immersive approach is available across Leeds, Wakefield and Sheffield, with courses typically running between two and four weeks.

Kennel Residential Training is ideal for dogs working on obedience, manners and structured progress in a professional environment. Your dog stays in our 5-star kennel facility at our Leeds and Wakefield HQ, receiving daily structured training sessions from our experienced team. Courses typically run between one and three weeks.

Both options are co-developed by our in-house certified dog behaviourist and include a full handover session and follow-up training as standard.

Not sure which fits your dog best? That's exactly what the initial assessment is for — we'll talk through both options and recommend the right one based on your dog's specific needs and temperament.

HOW IT WORKS

How It Works — Step by Step

Step 1 — Initial Assessment Every residential course begins with a one-hour assessment at your nearest centre. This is where we get to know your dog properly — their history, their triggers, their temperament and what's driving the behaviours you're dealing with. There's no commitment required at this stage, and all our assessments are currently available at 50% off.

Step 2 — Your Bespoke Training Plan Following the assessment, your trainer and our in-house certified dog behaviourist design a training programme built specifically around your dog and your lifestyle. No generic courses, no off-the-shelf programmes — everything is tailored to the two of you.

Step 3 — The Course Your dog begins their residential stay. Throughout the course, we keep you updated on their progress — you'll never be left wondering how things are going. We work through their programme in a structured, targeted way, always with the goal of achieving changes that last well beyond the end of the course.

Step 4 — Your Handover Session When the course ends, we don't just hand your dog back and wish you luck. You come in for dedicated personal tuition sessions where we demonstrate everything your dog has learned and teach you the specific techniques needed to maintain and build on their progress at home. This handover is a critical part of the process — your consistency after the course is what makes the results permanent.

Step 5 — Follow-Up Training Every residential course includes follow-up training sessions at your home or the centre. We check in, address any questions and make sure you and your dog are progressing exactly as expected. This ongoing support is included as standard — because we're invested in the long-term result, not just the end of the course.

PRICING

Pricing & Course Length

Residential training is priced individually based on your dog's specific requirements, the type of course and its duration. Courses typically run from one to four weeks depending on the complexity of your dog's needs and the goals you want to achieve.

To give you a tailored quote, we first need to carry out an initial assessment — this gives us everything we need to recommend the right course and provide accurate pricing with no surprises.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my dog be away? Course length varies depending on your dog's needs and the programme we design together. Home Life courses typically run between two and four weeks. Kennel Residential courses are typically one to three weeks. We'll give you a clear, honest recommendation during the initial assessment.

Will I get updates while my dog is away? Yes — we keep you informed throughout your dog's course. You won't be left wondering how things are going. Your trainer will be in regular contact with progress updates throughout the stay.

What breeds and ages do you accept? We work with dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages. There are no restrictions based on breed. Age and health requirements are discussed during the initial assessment.

My dog has bitten someone — can you still help? Yes. We regularly work with dogs that have displayed aggression, including biting. Our certified dog behaviourist is experienced with complex and challenging cases. The initial assessment is where we establish the full picture and recommend the most appropriate course.

What if my dog doesn't settle away from home? This is one of the most common concerns we hear — and one of the things our Home Life programme addresses particularly well. Because your dog lives in a home environment with a dedicated trainer, the transition tends to be much smoother than most owners expect. We've successfully worked with highly anxious and attachment-dependent dogs many times.

Is the training guaranteed? We can't guarantee a specific outcome for every dog — no honest trainer can. What we can guarantee is that every course is designed with genuine expertise, delivered with care, and followed up properly. The overwhelming majority of our residential clients see significant, lasting change.

What happens after the course ends? Every course includes follow-up training sessions as standard. We don't consider a course finished until you're confident maintaining the progress your dog has made. Ongoing support is always available beyond the included follow-up sessions.

How do I get started? Book an initial assessment at your nearest centre — currently 50% off. That's the starting point for everything. We'll take it from there.
