DOG TRAINING COURSES IN WAKEFIELD

PUPPY PRE-TRAINING ASSESSMENT

Before you commit to any of our training courses, we can complete a puppy pre-training assessment with you and your puppy at our Wakefield Training Centre. This allows us to understand what your training goals are, then write a course tailored to make them a reality, build good owner to dog communication and reliable obedience. During the initial assessment your trainer will discuss the training options available to you.

PUPPY SOCIALISATION

Giving our puppies the correct type of socialisation is key to their ongoing behaviour development. Because this is so important, we offer socialisation drop off days, maybe whilst you’re at work, so that your puppy can learn the most appropriate way for dogs to behave socially.

PUPPY TO ADULT TRAINING COURSES

This is a package especially designed to take you and your puppy through every vital stage of their early growth, up to the point of adulthood and help guide you through each stage to ensure you achieve the goals and behaviours that you desire. This package has 3 Stages, Puppyhood, Adolescence and Young Adult, with each stage focusing on the development of your dog at that time.

PRE-TRAINING ASSESSMENT

Before we can commence with any behavioural training course, we need to complete an initial assessment with you and your dog at our Wakefield Dog Training Centre. This allows us to understand why current behaviours are happening, then write a course tailored to help resolve them, build good owner – dog communication and reliable obedience. During the initial assessment your trainer will discuss the training options available to you.

PERSONAL BEHAVIOUR & OBEDIENCE TRAINING

Following an initial pre-training assessment at our Wakefield Dog Training Centre, we will tailor a bespoke course that first focus on the foundations of good behaviour. These firm foundations are absolutely required in order for our dogs to understand us, how we communicate and how we expect them to behave in all situations. We then look to focus on any specific issues they have, before moving on to obedience techniques, which are required to safely control your dog in every day life. This allows us to have the highest level of fun with our dogs.

BOOST DAY TRAINING

This add-on option is an intensive one-day of training, a Boost Day provides a full day of intensive training for your dog with one of our professional trainers, allowing them to make significant progress in a short amount of time and allows us to judge the level of progress expected over the course. Your dog becomes our dog for the day, drop them off in the morning and collect them at the end of the day. Your dog will work with one of our experienced trainers to address key behaviours identified during your dog’s pre-training assessment. The training day will focus on building the right relationship, and then we look at things like behaviour, socialisation, obedience, manners around other dogs, and controlling excitement, helping your dog to become better socialised and well-behaved. The training sessions are structured and tailored to your dog’s specific needs, allowing them to make the most of the day. The overall goal of a Boost Day is to introduce your dog to new training and help us to understand their training capabilities. Alongside the Boost Day, we also schedule one of your 1-hour training sessions, where you will receive the theory, knowledge and training exercises needed to continue your learning journey with your dog at home.

RESIDENTIAL & HOME LIFE TRAINING

Our Residential Packages are home based courses, where your dog will stay in the trainers home and become their dog for the duration of the course. We find that the extra attention this course enables us to give, brings fantastic results. Before commencing with training, we carry out an initial assessment with you and your dog. This helps us to understand the exact requirements to help us tailor your dogs training to your lifestyle, and enables us to plan the course accordingly.

  • Abby & Doug

Choosing The Dog Training Company was the best decision I ever made! Doug's progress has been nothing short of amazing. In comparison to the dog he was when we attended our initial assessment, he is transformed. I can now have people at the house and Doug is happy to be in their company. Doug will walk on a loose lead past people, dogs and cyclists with no reaction. Vet visits beforehand were extremely difficult. I cannot thank The Dog Training Company enough!
  • Kimberley & Chester

The change in Chester has been very rewarding to watch. He's a completely different dog now. Chester hated the outside world. He didn't enjoy going out for a walk and always appeared nervous. He would be wary going up to new people. His happy place was at home with his toys. After his 1st Boost Day we saw a big change in Chester. He was walking on the lead and his whole body language changed, tail up, strutting his stuff. He's completely transformed thanks to TDTC!
  • Cheryl & Wilson

I was at breaking point with my boy. He's a very nervous but also a full of energy Shar Pei. Due to his anxiety, he was constantly on edge whilst out on walks and was reactive towards other dogs and some people - he also hated new places and sounds so pretty much everything. We are nearly at the end of our sessions and walks are a lot more pleasant. I'm taking my boy for a walk instead of the other way round! Our life now is 100 times better than before we started training.

Dog To Assess

Your first consultation is the start of your training journey. During this initial assessment, we will look into your dog's full history, complete some practical exercises to uncover exactly which areas need to most work and then help you understand why your dog's behaviour is currently happening, then talk about your training goals.

Following the initial assessment, at one of our Centres, we will tailor a bespoke course that will first focus on the foundations of a great relationship and good behaviour. These firm foundations are required in order for our dogs to fully understand what we want from them, how to best communicate and how we expect them to behave in any given situation.

Once this is in place, we focus on the specific issues they have, before moving on to higher level obedience techniques, which are required to safely control your dog in every day life.

Our training journey together will allow you to have the dog you always dreamed of. Peace of mind: All our dog training is co-written by our in-house certified dog behaviourist and head trainer.

What You Need To Bring

We like to assess you and your dog on the equipment you normally walk them on. In some instances we may ask you to remove a training aid that is masking a behaviour, this could be a head collar or a particular type of training lead.

How Long It Takes

Our assessment takes around one hour. During this time you will be asked a series of questions that will give us a comprehensive history of your dog. We will then ask you to carry out some practical elements.

What We're Looking For

We will dig deep into the history of the time you have spent with your dog to find out exactly where your current relationship is and where any possible problem behaviours stem from. When we are able to find the root cause of any issues, we are able to address the real issue and provide a long lasting resolution to the problems.
